It
is with great sadness that Phil Shoenfelt & Southern Cross announce
the passing of our close friend, the American
singer/musician/songwriter William Hart Strecker. William died suddenly of a heart attack on 12/22/2017 while working on
one of his favourite activities, landscape gardening.
At one time
managed by Bob Dylan's manager Albert Grossman, William gave up music
for several years, before returning to his true passion in 1998
following a near-fatal car accident. Since then he has released several
brilliant CDs of his urban R & B flavoured songs, which feature
such world-renowned musicians as Ken Rich, Tommy Eyre, Chris Eminizer
and Frank Vilardi. The quality of his songwriting puts him up there
with immortals such as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Steve
Earle, while a list of the people he has worked with reads like a
"who's who" of American Rock, Soul, R & B and Country. He and his
music will be greatly missed, not only by his many fans but by the
musical "cognoscenti".

We treasure our memories of playing with William
several times at the Salt Creek Grill in Princeton NJ, and also the
time he played with us at the Prague pub U Vystrelenyho Oka.
Condolences, love and support to his ever-loving wife Margaret "Peg"
Strecker, his family and to all of his many friends, collaborators and
admirers. William Hart Strecker RIP.
